The Big Queer Tour is an Amsterdam Fringe walking show that turns the city into a living archive. As we wind along the canals, our sassy storytellers share hidden histories (from 18th-century sodomy trials to the struggle for LGBTQ+ liberation) and connect them to the fights, joys, and questions of today.
We pass historic cruising grounds and landmark venues like the legendary Spijker Bar and the Homomonument; expect quick-fire costume changes, hanky-code lore, and deliciously gossipy retellings with some surprise guests.
Along the way we meet queer heroes whose courage and stubborn hope offer inspiration now. Part history lesson, part performance art, all tea – served with scandal, wit, and a heavy pour of truth.
The Big Queer Tour was selected for the 2025 Amsterdam Fringe Festival and played to sold-out crowds. Staged in the streets with the city as its backdrop, this walking-tour performance spotlights today’s LGBTQ+ rights battles amid a global drift toward fascism, while drawing courage from Amsterdam’s historical heroes.
Performed in September 2025. Directed by Brandon Oelofse. Performed by Joseph Kearney and Henry McMillan.
